TO BE A MUSLIM

Faith means to believe and the one who believes will derive strength from what the individual believes in.

This is why we always see people of faith overcoming everything and being successful.

To be a Muslim the individual must accept the Six Articles of Faith. Once the individual accepts these six articles of faith and also recites the "Testimony of Faith" the individual becomes a Muslim.

DECLARATION OF FAITH

    1. Belief in Allah.
    2. Belief in the Angels of Allah.
    3. Belief in the Holy Scriptures of Allah.
    4. Belief in the Prophets And Messengers Allah.
    5. Belief in The Last Day of the World.
    6. Belief in Destiny.

1. BELIEF IN ALLAH

Allah is one and only and has brought us and all things from non-being into existence. Allah has no partner and no one is like Him. Allah alone is the Absolute Possessor of Greatness, Power and all Perfection.

2. BELIEF IN THE ANGELS OF ALLAH

Angles are created by Allah and never disobey Allah and are free from sin. There are also two angels for every person, who record his deeds. One of them stands to the right, the other to the left of a person. These two angels are charged with writing down everything you say and do. The Prophets among the Angels have been entrusted with the following tasks:

    1. Jibrail - to deliver revelations to the prophets sent by Allah
    2. Mikhail - to bring rain and to care for all that grows
    3. Israfil - to blow the Trumpet at the End of Time
    4. Azrail - to take the souls and bring death

3. BELIEF IN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES OF ALLAH

Allah has sent one hundred and four Holy Scriptures to mankind in order to show us the right way. One hundred of these consist of a single page, while four of them are large books and are the following:

    1. The Quran - Revealed to Prophet Muhammad.
    2. The Bible, Injil or Gospel - Revealed to Prophet Jesus / Isa.
    3. The Torah - Revealed to Prophet Moses / Musa
    4. The Psalms or Zabur - Revealed to Prophet David / Dawood.

4. BELIEF IN ALL PROPHETS AND MESSENGERS OF ALLAH

The first man and first prophet was Adam. The last prophet of all Prophets is Muhammad. Allah has sent one hundred twenty four thousand prophets to mankind. The names of twenty five prophets that are mentioned in the Holy Quran by name and accepted without any distinction between them are:

      1. Adam
      2. Enoch - Idris
      3. Noah - Nuh
      4. Eber - Hud
      5. Salah - Salih
      6. Abraham - Ibrahim
      7. Ismael - Ismail
      8. Lot - Lut
      9. Isaac - Ishaq
      10. Jacob - Yaqub

      16. Aaron - Harun
      17. David - Dawud
      18. Solomon - Sulayman
      19. Elijah - Ilyas
      20. Jonah - Yunus
      21. Ezra - Uzayr
      22. Zechariah - Zakariyya
      23. John - Yahya
      24. Jesus - Isa
      25. Muhammad

      - Some Muslims also consider Luqman, Alyasa and Zul Qarnayn as Prophets.

    5. BELIEF IN THE LAST DAY

The last day of the world. As all things in existence have a lifespan, this world too has a lifespan and one day its allotted time will draw to an end and the Day of Judgment will begin. Allah will judge His servants and reward or punish them according to their own deeds in this world and they will either be sent to Paradise or Hell.

    6. BELIEF IN DESTINY

Whatever good or bad happens in this world occurs by the Will of Allah. Whoever finds himself favored with blessings owes Allah Almighty a debt of gratitude. If misfortune touches them, it comes from Allah as well, as a test or punishment for their actions. It is the duty of the individual to be grateful for the blessings and to be patient in the face of calamities.

THE TESTIMONY OF FAITH / SHAHADA

Shahada is the testimony of faith. When an Individual accepts the above six articles of the Declaration of Faith then they can take Shahada to begin their new life as a Muslim and say the following words in Arabic:

      "ASH HA'DU AN LAA E'LAA'HA IL'LAL LAAH WA ASH HA'DU AN'NA MU'HAM'MA'DAN AB'DU'HU WA RA'SU'LUH'

"I testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the true messenger"

The Individual who recites the words of The Declaration of Faith/Shahada once will be cleansed of all the sins committed up until that moment and enters the religion of Islam and would die as a believer destined for Paradise.

Once Shahada is taken the Individual will then have responsibilities to fulfill towards The Creator, Self, People, Society, Nature and Animals as a part of their life.
